Gluten-Free Diet Menu Plan for the Week of July 28, 2013

Sitting on the porch thinking about this week’s menu plan, I’m enjoying the blooms of the day lilies and the newly-opened rose of sharon blossoms. It’s cool enough for a sweatshirt this morning, so I’m going to use my oven a few times this week.

Some of the recipes we like from the oven in cooler seasons are a special treat this time of year, when usually we're sweltering in Lake Erie heat and humidity.

Everything in this menu plan is gluten-free, but each recipe is good enough to serve to mixed groups. As I have mentioned in the past, this blog is about gluten-free food that even my husband likes!

Elegantly, Gluten-Free “Major Frustrations” Survey Results

Hi Everyone,

I’m Pat’s husband, Al. From time-to-time Pat mentions me on her blog. So, you may have heard of me… or not.

Anyway, Pat has asked me to write up the results of the “Major Frustrations” Survey which we recently conducted on the ElegantlyGlutenFree.com website as well as on Facebook. So, here it goes…

Overview

The purpose of the survey was to…

Gluten-Free Diet Menu Plan for the Week of July 21, 2013

Feeding a family where not everyone eats gluten-free may seem a little intimidating for a cook, but there are plenty of dishes to cook that everyone can enjoy. Actually, one of the easiest tips for finding gluten-free food for yourself is one that also works for feeding a mixed group, and that is to select from whole foods.

Whole foods are an excellent beginning to make everyone happy since there’s no concern about hidden ingredients that might be bad for the gluten intolerant or gluten sensitive. Buying food that is unprocessed and naturally raised — those would be whole foods – makes it easy to tell what is gluten-free since there are no hidden ingredients.

Mustard Dill Sauce with Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Here’s a quick-to-fix recipe that will satisfy even my hungriest snack attack.

This easy gluten-free snack or appetizer can also easily serve as a side dish for a meal, especially a sandwich or a dinner salad. The sweet flavor of the sweet potatoes contrasts well with the spicy tang of mustard and dill in the creamy sauce.

One serving of these nutrition-packed sweets gives me 4 grams of dietary fiber…

Gluten-Free Diet Menu Plan for the Week of July 14, 2013

Hot and humid are the most frequent descriptions of life around here this week. With that in mind I’m happy with a hamburger cookout, a couple of slow cooker meals, a sandwich or two, a cool salad dinner and several 30 minute skillet dinners.

With the heat comes a tendency to want to move around less, so I am even more careful than usual to serve lean meats, plenty of vegetables and fruits and main dishes that often don’t need any carbs for side dishes.
