Gluten-Free Banana Strawberry Smoothie

Al & I Both Love This Gluten-Free Banana Strawberry Smoothie

Smoothies are among my favorite treats!

Even my husband, Al, loves this Gluten-Free Banana Strawberry Smoothie… almost beyond reason.  If I forget and set mine down and walk away…leaving it momentarily unguarded… Well, I guess you can imagine what happens then 🙁 …

… He’d probably say something quite male like: “If you snooze, you lose” or “You got what you deserved”… The bottom line? I don’t usually do that… EVER! But, that’s enough about Al.

Not only is the flavor of this smoothie like a dessert but… It’s good for me, too… For breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacks. It’s full of powerhouse nutrients, vitamins and minerals!

There are many different ways to make smoothies, but this is a good way to start if you’ve never done it before…

… Or, if you love smoothies, I want you to know that this is my favorite smoothie recipe of all time!!!

Easy To Make & Healthy, Too

Smoothies are so easy to make. And, the health benefits can be very high, depending on how many and exactly which ingredients you want to add to the recipe. Personally, I like to go for the antioxidants.

Antioxidants to Assist Your Immune System

The strawberries in this smoothie are high in vitamin C, an extremely potent antioxidant.

Antioxidants are great for assisting your body in cell repair and they help protect against free radical damage from contaminates in our living environment. Plus, they enhance your body’s ability to resist bacteria as well as viruses like those that cause the common cold. Antioxidants give a great boost to your immune system because they help your body remove the “static” that may be interfering with the proper functioning of your body’s defenses!

The Potassium in the Bananas Is Crucial

Bananas are high in fiber and provide a good amount of potassium to which is helpful for a whole lot of things in your body. Potassium is quite an amazing element when your body uses it. Some of the things that it does for you are:

• It helps trigger your heart to beat.
• It helps your muscles and nerves work properly.
• It helps your kidneys with the elimination of waste materials.

Without The Dairy Milk, Would It Still Be A Smoothie?

Dairy milk, another ingredient of this smoothie will provide, protein plus a good amount of calcium. Calcium is important for maintenance of bones and teeth, as well as blood pressure and other important bodily functions.

If you don’t want to use regular cow’s milk, why not try almond milk. Many brands of almond milk will also supply calcium and other minerals without any cholesterol or saturated fats (although the 1 g of protein is less than what’s in dairy milk).

Can’t Have Dairy?  Want to Try Almond Milk?

When I look for almond milk, I usually try to find brands where the almond milk is supplemented with calcium, vitamin D, and vitamin A. I personally avoid the ones with added sweetener. Some are flavored but I don’t usually buy those because the flavor will “bleed through” into whatever it is I’m cooking with it. If I want some sweetener or flavoring, I add my own.

The Recipe

Gluten-Free Banana Strawberry Smoothies

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 10 minutes

Makes 2 servings

  • 1-1/2 Cups Milk (dairy or other)
  • 1 Cup Strawberries, fresh or frozen
  • 1 Medium Banana, fresh or frozen, cut in 1/2 inch chunks
  • 1 or 2 Drops of Vanilla Flavoring
  • 1/2 Cup Ice Cubes (or 1/2 Cup more frozen Fruit)

Mix it all up in a blender until smooth enough to go through a straw, or, if you want to spoon it, blend it just until the chunks of the banana and whatever else you put in it are the right size for your preferences.

… Enjoy!
