There are many different approaches to eating… Low-carb, paleo, Atkins, whole foods, real foods, raw and many, many more. And of course a Gluten-Free Diet.
One of the nice things about a many of these different approaches to eating is that they are often interchangeable with each other. I personally like to intermix Paleo and Low-Carb with my “foundational” Guten-Free approach to eating.

Summer is a time for celebrations and special family togetherness…
… It’s warm, humid and maybe even punctuated by a quick afternoon thunder shower or two.
Special meals and picnics, sparklers and fireworks, vacations and trips to the mountains, beaches and grandma’s house are perfect for bringing out the best summertime has to offer. And, one way you can add to the celebration is by using colors to enhance your meals to make them exciting and enjoyable!

Sitting on the porch thinking about this week’s menu plan, I’m enjoying the blooms of the day lilies and the newly-opened rose of sharon blossoms. It’s cool enough for a sweatshirt this morning, so I’m going to use my oven a few times this week.
Feeding a family where not everyone eats gluten-free may seem a little intimidating for a cook, but there are plenty of dishes to cook that everyone can enjoy. Actually, one of the easiest tips for finding gluten-free food for yourself is one that also works for feeding a mixed group, and that is to select from whole foods.
Whole foods are an excellent beginning to make everyone happy since there’s no concern about hidden ingredients that might be bad for the gluten intolerant or gluten sensitive. Buying food that is unprocessed and naturally raised — those would be whole foods – makes it easy to tell what is gluten-free since there are no hidden ingredients.
Hot and humid are the most frequent descriptions of life around here this week. With that in mind I’m happy with a hamburger cookout, a couple of slow cooker meals, a sandwich or two, a cool salad dinner and several 30 minute skillet dinners.
With the heat comes a tendency to want to move around less, so I am even more careful than usual to serve lean meats, plenty of vegetables and fruits and main dishes that often don’t need any carbs for side dishes.
Summer is living up to expectations by being hot and humid…humid on steroids here in N.E. Ohio!
Who wants to spend much time cooking in a kitchen that’s already steamy?
I’m keeping the gluten-free menu plan easy by starting the week off with Easy Beef Cube Steaks in the Crockpot, a slow cooker meal that has a low-carb option.
